Vigo County Health Officials recommend that everyone limit outdoor activities from dusk to dawn. If you must be outdoors be sure to wear light colored long sleeved shirts and pants. Use a repellent containing at least 30% to 35 % DEET for adults, 10% DEET for children. Do not use DEET solutions on children under 2 months of age. Cover a baby carriage or playpen with mosquito netting when out-of-doors.
Health officials are asking individuals to remove all standing water from their property to prevent these mosquitoes from breeding. The mosquitoes that carry West Nile breed in stagnant water, as can be found in clogged rain gutters, ditches, catch basins and unattended pools and bird baths. Please continue to dump out standing water around property, check gutters, toys, wading pools and flower pots or anything water can stand in. Fix any holes in screens and make sure they are tightly attached to all your doors and windows.
