The Vigo County Highway Department is responsible for maintaining county roads and to ensure that the needs of the public are being addressed.

The Highway Department maintains roads by mowing, weedeating, brush cutting, filling pot holes, grading, milling, chip & sealing, fogging, etc.  We make sure the roads are unimpaired by trees, trash, and other debris.  We close roads that we are working on for the safety of our men and the safety of the vehicles running these roads.

The Highway Department is no longer responsible for issuing permits, drainage, and signage. These things fall under the Vigo County Engineer Department.

Information concerning any of the above can be obtained by calling the Vigo County Highway Department at (812) 466-9635.  Our hours between March and October (summer) are 6:30-5:00 Monday through Friday.  Our hours during October to March (winter) are 7:30-4:00 Monday-Friday.  If you have an emergency during our off hours such as a tree blocking the road or a stop sign down please contact the Vigo County Sheriff's Department at (812) 232-3801. The Sheriff's Department will notify Highway personnel of the problem.
